This is an invitation to practice Asuba Bhavana - Investigation into Anicca or Impermanence of the Body. Asuba practice is the contemplation on the repulsiveness of the body, that is any 'body' including animals - on the 11th April 2009 this young deer was found dead next to the pond in LuangPor's garden at the Monastery. I have decided to take photos of this deer every day and share them with the readers as part of an Asuba Bhavana practice. Two Photos of the deer will be uploaded once a day as the deer slowly decomposes. It may be helpful if you have seen a dead body before, even if it was just a glimpse at a funeral or an animal on the side of the road. Here are the instructions:
You can choose from many methods available to practice Asuba Bhavana. Briefly one should focus on “Dwtainsakara=32 parts” of our “Kothasa=Body Parts”. According to “Satipathanna Sutta=Mindfulness Discourse”, when one sees dead bodies or skeleton, “Ayanpikayaw Avun Dhammo Avunbhave Avunanatitau”=”My body is exactly just like this disgusting unpleasant skeleton or dead body, in very similar sense and I cannot escape from this true nature”. By concentrating as such, one realizes the true disgusting and unpleasant nature of one’s body (as well as others’ bodies) and it helps to control in many Unwholesome Deeds and also helps to reduce “Raga=Sensual Desire”. 11th April 2009 - ASUBA PRACTICE DAY 1
